Terms of Service — Tightcut

Revised 6 October 2026

Tightcut is an iPhone app made and sold by Naruberio LLC (“Naruberio”, “we”). This page sets out the deal between you and us for using it. Downloading Tightcut, or opening it, means you accept what is written here.

Because you get Tightcut from Apple's App Store, Apple's own licence for App Store software — the Licensed Application End User License Agreement, at https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/ — covers it too. Read the two side by side; wherever they disagree, Apple's text is the one that counts.

The job Tightcut is built for

Tightcut shortens recordings of people talking. It measures how loud the sound is from moment to moment, lists the gaps where nobody is talking, and on export removes each gap you have not marked to keep. Two extra steps can ride along in that same export if you switch them on: swapping what is behind a person, and running the clip from its end to its start.

It does not turn speech into text, make captions, or change your clip in any way you did not pick.

You need an iPhone with iOS 17.0 or newer. On other hardware or older software we cannot promise it will work.

A cut list is a first draft

Which stretches count as quiet is Tightcut's estimate. Room noise, the microphone you recorded with, and the sensitivity or level you choose all shift the line between “quiet” and “talking”. Look over the list before you export: any gap on it can be kept instead. Telling a person apart from the background is an estimate as well, and depends on the light, the contrast, and whatever else is in the shot.

Recordings you bring in

The clips, sound files, pictures and settings you use in Tightcut belong to you. They stay on your iPhone and never travel to Naruberio — which also leaves us with no way to open them, look inside them, or get them back.

So if your phone goes missing, if you delete Tightcut, or if your backup becomes unreachable, there is nothing we can restore. Every export is written as a brand-new file and the recording you started from is never written over; hold on to that original until the cut is what you want.

Bring in only material you have the right to edit. Checking that is your responsibility.

Your licence, and what remains ours

You may run Tightcut on iOS devices of your own, for personal use that is not commercial. This permission is not exclusive, and you cannot hand it to someone else. Taking the app apart — by reverse engineering, decompiling or disassembling it — is not allowed, and neither is altering it, copying it, passing it around, lending, leasing or selling it, or granting anybody a sublicence.

Copyright, trade marks and every other intellectual property right in Tightcut and in what it contains are held by Naruberio or by whoever licensed those parts to us.

Do not use Tightcut to break the law, to infringe on anyone's rights, or to get in the way of how the app runs.

Paying once

Tightcut has one price, paid when you buy it. Nothing is sold inside the app: there is no add-on, no subscription, nothing that renews by itself, and no advertising. Every feature works from the first launch, and once you have paid we will not take features away (what happens if one can no longer be kept is set out under Updates, and if Tightcut is withdrawn).

Apple charges the payment method linked to your Apple ID. Your card and other payment details never reach us.

Refunds are Apple's decision, not Naruberio's. Ask Apple at https://support.apple.com/HT204084; whatever Apple decides, we accept.

A different price may be set in future. It affects only people who buy after the change — owning Tightcut already means you are unaffected.

What we do not promise

To the extent the law permits, Tightcut is supplied “as is” and “as available”. We give no warranty about it, whether spelled out or implied, and that includes any promise that it fits a particular purpose.

How well Tightcut picks out silence or a background, how much shorter it predicts a clip will be, and how an export turns out all depend on the recording you feed it. We try hard, but these are not guaranteed. When a format cannot be carried across unchanged, Tightcut re-encodes it instead of giving up. If it still cannot write the file, or if you ask for something that cannot be done — a transparent background will not survive a reversed clip, for example — Tightcut tells you so instead of handing you a broken file.

If something goes wrong

To the extent the law permits, Naruberio is not responsible for lost data, nor for loss that is indirect, incidental, special or consequential. Where we are responsible, the most we will pay is what you paid for Tightcut. None of this shields us from harm we cause on purpose or through gross negligence.

Consumer law where you live

Nothing on this page reduces or removes a right that the mandatory consumer protection law of your home country gives you, and nothing here strips away the protection of rules that a contract is not allowed to override.

This matters most if you are a consumer living in the European Union, the United Kingdom, or another place with protections of the same kind. For you:

Updates, and if Tightcut is withdrawn

Updates may change how Tightcut looks or works, and may add features. We will not remove a feature you paid for unless keeping it becomes impossible — for example because iOS stops supporting what it relies on — and nothing will ever be moved behind a further payment.

This page may be rewritten too: a new version applies as soon as it appears here, and the revision date at the top moves with it. Should we stop offering Tightcut, we will try to say so on this page.

Japanese law and the Kokura court

These terms are governed by Japanese law; rules for deciding which country's law applies are set aside. Any dispute about these terms or about Tightcut goes, at first instance and exclusively, to the Kokura Branch of the Fukuoka District Court.

Consumer law where you live takes priority over this section.
